My first turn was received today, and I just replied with my set-up. :happy:

Sounds good Ratzki re. the DAR. I was hoping to see how my co-belligerents are doing, how they set-up, etc. Either way is fine. Herroberst, Combat Womat, do you have any feeling one way or the other?
Hi Willow,

well , as this is an operation, am taking the conservative approach in moving up troops through tree lines and some poor bastards in a more exposed area. . I have extensive support teams that should be able to provide enough cover when the exposed troops start taking fire.

Armour is way back as in my area LOS appears clear at 1.5kms ! so some well hidden guns can take out my paltry 5 t34s before they could get a round away ..

is there increased danger of the tanks bogging due to the weather ? should we move them about a little bit to avoid this ??
I have had a couple of minutes and not a sound from the enemy as yet ...

Hi Wombat;

That sounds just what I did. I have a bit of urban terrain that breaks up the LOS a bit. I only have 1 km of visibilty in my game - is yours in "light snow" like mine? I'm surprised there is that much difference. I have left all my tanks as far back as possible still, just in case. Do not want to lose any right off the bat.

I've been playing some of the Dr. Bake scenarios as the Russians, which are huge armour battles during "Winter Storm." I was afraid of bogging at the start, but I've found its possible to move large formations of T-34s and T-70s at fast speed, and very rarely get an immobilization. Very counter-intuitive, I know, but I wouldn't be too afraid to move ours about at will. Having said all that, watch you bog and immobilize half your tanks lol! I get occasional boggings, but I give a reverse order, and in a turn or 2 the offending tank USUALLY unbogs, and can carry on.

So no contact yet? How many turns are you at now? Its not impossible that we are faced with very light opposition in these opening rounds. I plan on being somewhat aggressive with my infantry until proven otherwise - advance half my guys for a turn, then halt and advance the other half.
Just a look at your Map:

I'm making very slow progress. We're into our 6th minute, and I've been under fire by HMGs for 5 of those! Quite frustrating, as I have yet to even get a sound contact, or see tracers. I've only lost 3-4 guys so far, but its going to be slow going at this rate. How's everyone else doing?
quiet , too quiet. .. .moving some men over open ground via dry fire and movement, but not drawing any fire ... .. starting to bring two tanks up to provide fire support on the tree line but ... nowt !
I have nothing to report since I was gone the weekend and then had computer problems to solve. Email running again but I lost all archived emails and have asked opponent to resend last file.
I think I'd prefer quiet! I started my infantry right at the forward edge of the set-up zone - it did achieve the purpose of drawing fire...
Wombat, are you using sneak commands mainly?

well , no due to the area needing to be covered I am moving troops up quite openely. Partolling troops up the treeline with their front covered by the maxims .. others are moving with a mixture of patrol (to contact ) and some run and hide ! risky but I need to cover some ground .. had one T34 bog for a sec .. but he broke free, whew!
