HiHi

Spot on Ari, didn't expect it to go down that quick, was it the battleship that gave it away?

Well done, will now have to go and have a 'Scratch & Think' to find something a bit more testing :chin:

Actually I got interested of history of stirrups, that led me to right track. I just got sure checking a battleship existed with the same name.... anyway a good question!
HiHi

Well now there's a coincidence, I did a paper for my tutorial group in the Armies & Society' course at Uni involving the Stirrup (which you spelt correctly, Sheee, Benefits of a University education were wasted obviously on me  ) it was part of a theme on how inventions have altered the way wars were fought, and the stirrup certainly revolutionised Western European Cavalry tactics even leading to the concept of Chivalry etc. There's an interesting bit which I don't remember all the details of but apparently there is a famous statue in Rome with one of the Emperor astride his horse feet firmly in stirrups, which hadn’t yet been introduced into the West.

OK lets give the Ladies a turn.

My husband is mentioned by Shakespeare.

I have an English Folk song/dance named after me

One of my sons bore his arms in splendour

The rose is associated with my name.

HiHi

Well at least it dodn't fall 1st shot :-)

Today it might be suggest she had a dysfunctional family.

I called one of my sons a Bastard

Another son died of drink

My Husband made a fool of himself at Wakefield and wore a paper crown at the Bar

My Grandaughters fame also centered on the Rose.

HiHi

Mmmm, not even a nibble, Ok as an overall clue the Rose is central to many of the clues, maybe even a matter of Life & death; with some of the clues, 'Think' Heraldry.

One of my relatives was considered to be a monarch maker in Europe.

While one of my sons bore his arms in Splendour, and his 1st title suggested he walked a lot, another was just a plain Boar.

HiHi

Ok, :( seems I'll have to give a real 'give away' clue. Think England and heraldry,

While 1 of my sons saw the end of the flower Argent, my Grandaughter helped establish the Rose.

HiHi

Well without actually spelling it out I don't see how with this clue folk can fail to put the peices together, if they don't, I'll go kick next doors cats ... think I'll go kick cats anyhow, hate the vermin. 50cal

"While 2 of my sons were King, Shakespeare only wrote a Tragedy about 1 of them and that was all lies, lies and more lies"

eleanor of aquitane?
HiHi

Correct reasoning Iggy ie 2 sons who became king but only 1 Shakspeare wrote about (I forgot about King John & Richard I to be honest) interesting snipit, Elenor is one of only 2 crowned Queens of England who had consecutive sons rule, Mary if Teck being the other,.

Like this "who am I", Elenor was a truely remarkable woman.

Buuuuut 'fraid it's not the right answer, still there is only one person in Shakespeare it can fit now, then back track to find her. :)
