Basicaly ASL for PC.

Those are nice Richie but I just got into ASL with the ASL Starter Kit #1 and want to have it look as much as possible to the original counters.  Once I get the hang of the ASLSK#1 rules, then I wont mind trying others.  BTW nice collection you have on sale Richie!

RE: Latest Squad Battles?
ASL is nice, but there are lots of other game systems that play better now a days. Smile

Combat Commander
Band of Brothers series
Old School Tactical
Conflict of Heroes

Even Squad Leader and Cross of Iron play better Big Grin

RE: Latest Squad Battles?
Thanks for your opinion Richie. All though Iam quite a beginner with boardgames, one would imagen some systems have had success over the ASL system over the years. Iam just a sucker for classical stuff and wanted to give ASL a try.

I would even say that if Squad Battles had a boardgame version it would have better gameplay wise then ASL.

I already own Combat Commander (got it for Christmas), so that one is in the shelf already. I ruled out Conflict of Heroes for now beacuse of two reasons, what you get and quality vs others on your list and price vs others. Even more if you add the solo expansion.  So that leaves me with two promising titles on your respectful list.  One which Iam very keen to picking up soon, "Old School Tactical". "Band of Brothers Ghost Panzer 2nd edition is also tempting!

I must add that Iam also looking for solo play potential in my purchase.  Not that CCE has all that solo play potential but the game it self has been edited in Spanish here in Spain, so there is more of a chances to play with others.  Even if that means the Vassal way which also has the cards in Spanish.  The language is a bit of a handycap on my end regarding playing with others, not so with me as I was grown up in the US, but so with natives here in Spain, so I tend to look for solo play.

From what I have seen regrading the rules of OST I would say solo play is quite doable.  Your feedback or anybody elses here is more then welcome regarding wargaming ;-)  Iam all eyes/ears!

Regarding solo play with OST...

CCE solo play...

BTW I would add the Lock N Load system to the list also! "heroes of...".

Care!

RE: Latest Squad Battles?
Conflict of Heroes solo rules are being designed to the Lock N Load system tactical system too.

I heard that the CoH system can be used on lots of other game systems Wink

Yep I hear that too! I guess I will get it some day.  Didn´t know about the Lock N Load thing, that´s gonna be nice. Heroes of The Falklands from LnL is already on my list for sure. That will most likely include the SB Falklands module too.  Do you know anything about the TCS and GD 42 from MMP?

Thanks Richie!

I have only heard of the TCS series and GD42. I am more of a single squad/ single tank gamer.

You should ask here:

There are lots of great guys there and they have a war game section that is top notch.

Lock N Load solo:

I have these rules and they really open up ASL using these rules.

Quote:Retro, 5th edition is a tactical, squad-level World War II combat variant rules set contained in a 56-page book.  Its goal is to provide players--experienced and inexperienced alike--with simplified rules to enable them to play and enjoy tactical wargames and modules without having to master hundreds of pages of rules and a steep learning curve.  You must own the necessary components (counters and mapsheets) of the "host" game to utilize Retro.
The variant was originally written as a variant for Avalon Hill's Squad Leader and its modules. This edition continues that tradition, and presumes this game to be the host system, even though gamers have used Retro with other tactical World War II games from various publishers.

Two to eight players take on the role of a tank commander, using their hand of Battle Cards to move, target, fire, and conceal their tank, while attempting to score Victory Points by completing scenario objectives and destroying enemy tanks. A great tank commander will inspire his crew and pay careful attention to morale, while shrewdly maneuvering and attacking his enemy.

RE: Latest Squad Battles?
Hi Richie, thanks for the info. That "Tank Duel" looks quite good! Would need to see how the system works though. Some card games are hard to solo, so will have to see about this one.

I should recive GD 42´ tomorrow along with Panzer Battles and The Mighty Endeavor, both (SCS) from MMP. I originaly ordered The Last Blitzkrieg which is the new BCS but the box was crushed before it got sent (last one in stock).

Iam good with the standard ASLSK rules for now. Once played to to death I then might look at your option, Thanks for that one too!

Plenty of wargaming this year :-)
