RE: Gary Grigsby's War in the East hosted at the Blitz?
Has anyone found any reviews on the game?

Iam seriously thinking of picking up this game, but would be nice to read something about it before I pay the ridicolous 62 EUR matrix games would charge me for it..

So you say that War in the east is not the successor of War in Russia?
I really liked WiR back in the days.

It seems that it's a similar game scale than Total War in Europe serie (divisions, regiments, brigades), and... why not to include it? The fortunate ones having this new game will find opponents for their PBEM games here... and if we are lucky enough maybe someone will post an AAR, or his feelings with this new game, etc

cheers

The Armchair General site has a small AAR posted http://www.armchairgeneral.com/war-in-th...report.htm looks like it might be worth picking up

I have not yet gotten the game, going to be building a new computer shortly. Once that is done, I will indeed get this game. Please include my vote in having this game incorporated into the club.

RE: Gary Grigsby's War in the East hosted at the Blitz?
I bought this game the day it came out, and I have played several of the scenarios. I am in a campaign game with a friend to feel it out for PBEM as well.

The game is huge...but compares to say Normandy or some other large PzC campaign game. I spend about 3 hours to do my turn quickly. (as the axis)

There is a bit of a learning curve, but you can throw yourself right in without too much reading. The units are easy to move, and fight, and the air war can be automated, without any intervention on your part.

If you want the detail, there is many things you can micromanage, like support units (stug battalions etc), fly individual squadrons etc....and probably will have to, to become an expert player.

The Russian AI is pretty good, in that you probably wont beat it (or get a Majority victory) the first few times you try. The feel of the eastern front is maintained...

Lastly, there are some oddities in the game, that are being addressed, and the developers are dedicated to improving the game. They plan to release War in the West and War in the Desert using the same model, so it has to be perfect.

I have the game but I'm unsure if I'll ever get the time to pbem because of other games, mainly JT games.
I love the concept of the game and as such I would say include it somewhere as I'm sure it will get played.
I was hoping JT might produce something like this with his WWII in Europe series, maybe split up into 4 one 1 year at a time games of the war in Russia.
I'm still hopeful something like this will be produced and I'm sure many others familiar with the JT interface and style will also be expectant of this
the will happen soon.
Patience is a virtue they say.
