Got a second hand laptop and microsoft want to charge me £160 to use Vista on it which I already paid over £300 for so Im looking to use linux... being a total technophobe how do I go about getting Linux and how do I set it up etc. Any help appreciated.

But as Stryker said,go for Ubuntu.That's what i've been playing with for more than a year
You might also wanna try KUbuntu: http://www.kubuntu.org/
It's the same with Ubuntu,with the differance that it's using KDE as it's GUI.Much better looking if you ask me ;)
