...also, do not forget that the soviet guards infantry is MUCH better than the regular infantry. The quality alone is better but also the ratings differ:

regular infantry:

HA 2/0
SA 4/1
Aslt 9

guards infantry:

HA 5/0
SA 6/1
Aslt 10

I mention this because I do not know of your specific situation but in Kursk '43 a successful soviet defense always centers around the guards. The regular infantry should be used as fodder. The a successful German player should of course avoid the guards if at all possible. The soviet player can make this impossible as the campaign progresses and he notices the main axis effort as he can strengthen the line with the guards units that he has in reserve and shuffle out the regular units to less engaged areas.
