Also note that you should spread out your heavy fire options by bringing not only FO with a wire to some big guns behind the lines, but also SP gun's that have a weapon with 105mm's or more.

It's more cost effective to lob 1-3 150mm or 152mm shells into a strongly held enemy position that may be more isolated on a path to your flags, instead of bringing down heavy FO arty on them.

If you take a look at the actual tactics used in WW2, in many situations, you would have INF guns brought up to these positions, set up out of small arms and mortar range, and then have them blow the hell out of it. This was also done in city fighting where infantry would be used to pin down return fire, a gun set up under this cover, and then a wonderful shillacking ensued.
