RE: New Panzer Battles game incoming ?
Outlaw Josey Wales: another thing to keep in mind is that there are no replacements, and combat tends to be quite violent and deadly with fairly high casualties for even smaller battles, at least in PB Kursk. With this engine, you more or less need to have battles of about a day at most to allow units to reorganize.

I have no reason to believe that numerous 25 pounders or French 150mm guns (not to mention American artillery battalions) will do less damage than their Soviet counterparts.

My main reason for not playing the corps-sized scenarios thus far is that aside from II SS Panzerkorps 6th July, they seem to be very difficult if not impossible to win for the Germans against a competent Soviet defender with the current victory requirements.

I've tried to create a plan for some of them, but quickly end up with a completely ahistorical concentration of units at one point to maximize firepower and minimize Soviet activations, which isn't how I want to play the game. XXXXVIII Panzerkorps scenarios are probably winnable, but from my perspective some of your tactics might need to be somewhat gamey, also to counter Soviet advantages (lots of artillery/tanks). If you don't minimize exposure to artillery as the Germans when you need to break through a bunker line or a line in depth, you lose. In scenarios where you don't have overwhelming advantages of your own, obviously.

RE: New Panzer Battles game incoming ?
We have had to do a lot of rework on the OB. That has (finally) got to a stage where we can get back onto the scenarios.

There has been a lot of changes with the scenarios over the last month with tweaks based upon play testing and some being junked and recreated due to either further research or change in scope. We now have three of us designing scenarios vs just me as was the case with Kursk.

We're about to send a big update out to the testers imminently to ensure they aren't twiddling their thumbs!! Wink

There is also a lot of work underway on Panzer Battles 3 with Mike Avanzini deep into the OB and purchasing a lot of documents to support that. With Kursk being on the Eastern Front, Panzer Battles 2 in the West, I can honestly say we're planning to go to another front for Panzer Battles 3....

That's good news David.

A Panzer Battles game for operation Marita could be nice. Fall WeiB would be trickier to cover in a single game as finding a single battle that stands out is more difficult.

North Africa is perhaps the most obvious choice, but also a very interesting one. Particularly a battle like Gazala would be very nice.

I think in north Africa to... and if i dont remember bad Mike Avanzini was involved in El Alamein and Tobruk no??? i cant confirm this because notes are not converted to PDF and cant open the old windows help archives in windows 7 at least i know he was involved in Tunis title (notes come here in PDF).

The question for me in PzB2 is west... but WHEN??? i find the 44 period boring because is simple overexploited in wargames... maybe i admit better in PzB scale Market Garden to cover all the German add-hoc kampfgruppens with luftwaffe troops, Kriegsmarine, SS, local SS, Army with the special units... and why not, polish paratroopers hehehe. Maybe a title covering France campaign... focused in Yellow case and with some bonus scens based in Red case.

Marita... maybe Merkur is more interesting with solo infantry battles, a good way to test engine before a jump to Pacific area... and they can test new features here like fanatical/sturm parameter before try it with japanese troops.

If PzB3 is an Africa title i prefer maybe Crusader over later battles... BUT i think the better battle to cover in PzB scale is El-Alamein... limited in space and time, they can cover battle in 2 phases for example... i dont like El-Alamein because is to similar to Kursk but with less deep in defenses but lets see.

Maybe some bone for us is a good delayed gift ;-) any way good luck with the work guys, you know, we want PzB2 and we want it YESTERDAY!!! for PzB3 we are good enough to only want it TOMORROW!!!! hehehehe.

PD: if PzB3 moves to Africa maybe here we can see a new feature to engine to cover the dust that motorized/tracked units do, this could be used in dry east front or as a way to see units moving in fields (i remember read allways in Kursk in how germans cant hide their movements in fields).

Dust spotting is already in the game - see page 26 of the User manual....

We are a long way off PzB2, let alone PzB3.... Whip

And talking about Operation Merkur....

RE: New Panzer Battles game incoming ?
Thanks for the reply.

When i talk about "dust" i refer to see on map the dust effect, something that had a great impact in tactical battles in North Africa... i see this like "smoke" in attack and defense (you can use fast motorized/track units to deploy a dust screen) AND with a great impact in mobile battles where maybe you CANT spot enemy BUT can see over terrain "evidences" of something potentially dangerous... (this sand works like a map element, you need spot it to notice the presence of dust or under direct spot of units or spoted by air recon).

Well, we are wargames junkies... when we buy a new game we are thinking not in next title... we are thinking in the next behind next Big Grin2

Thanks for the "bone" BUT with the clothes used and the unitbox background... first word come to my mind is Monte Casino... maybe we can see these brave guys fighting in the sunny Italy??? in the "boot" or in the "ball" (italian peninsula or Sicily island) Helmet Rolleyes

Again thanks for the "bone" maybe i prefer a good piece of meat but... hehehe.

It's a bit strange.

The guy with the MP 40 is a mirrored representation of a picture from Normandy dated 21st of June 1944, whilst the guy with the MG 34 (also Strela's avatar) is in a picture from Italy dated September 1943.

Edit:

It gets stranger, as the third guy is in a picture from Russia dated 1943.

I have a feeling the next teaser/anticipation topic will make my head spin just as much as the one for Kursk, where I couldn't match the screenshot of the scenario with a map in any of my books due to the maps being less accurate.

I don't think we should put much stock in the pictures.I remember in the Kursk thread there was some posts about identification of various SS officers.Pretty sure Kursk uses a pic of Kurt Meyer for one of the HQ's.

Sure would like to see Op Diadem/Anzio at some point...
