15 September 1940: The successful U-48, sailing under Kptlt. Bleichrodt for the first time, placed itself astride the projected route of the recently instituted SC convoys. Contact was made after nightfall on the 14th and he began to maneuver for a favorable firing position. It was a relatively simple task to maintain contact with the west heading Slow Convoy as it was making no more than 7 knots. Over the next several hours U-48 would attack and harry SC-3, even as the trailing escorts came on the scene. //Note the white dot on the jump map marks the spot of the last wireless transmission from the spotting U-boat.
