Eilendorf, 5km E of Aachen, Germany: [Best played as Axis] By mid October 1944, the American VII Corps was very near to completing the encirclement of Aachen. With the 30th Infantry Division pushing from the north and the 1st Infantry from the south, the German defenders holding open the narrow corridor into the city were being slowly squeezed. With the situation growing more desperate by the hour, Field Marshal Model authorized limited counterattacks to maintain contact with the city. Near noon on 15 October General Denkert, commanding the German 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division, launched the 29th PzG Regiment against the reinforced US 16th Infantry Regiment, near Verlautenheide, to the northeast of Aachen. Tiger tanks of the 506th Heavy Pz Battalion were also committed to the effort to insure success. The American soldiers had watched the preparations for the German attack throughout the morning and were not surprised to see the attack. However, cries of "Tigers!" soon sent a deadly chill through the waiting GIs.

"Tigers" is an interesting scenario I just finished with Boisforas, who gained a minor victory. Though the scenario is severely lopsided in favor of the allies, it was meant to be from the outset, as a "play vs computer" scenario. My strategy, as the German, was to use my significant artillery and sturdy panzergrenadiers to take the field, but the allies have a huge superiority in armor, and the german must fight uphill, against units in prepared positions - still, if my luck had been in the last two turns, I could have landed a minor victory by capturing the center town. I killed 3 U.S. units for every one of mine, but it was not enough. Only my infantry losses were somewhat heavy, very light losses otherwise. Certainly a challenge for the Axis player.
Thus, what is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy's strategy.
