Moncourt, 35km E of Nancy, France: [Best played as Allied] In September 1944, Third Army drove through the French province of Lorraine, the last barrier between Patton and the Rhine. Gathering every available tank in the Reich, the Germans quickly formed the 5th Panzer Army. Disorganized and with few combat experienced units, Hitler ordered it into a counterattack against the American forces in Lorraine. The LVIII Panzer Korps, with the hastily organized 111th and 113th Panzer Brigades, was assigned the unrealistic task of retaking Nancy. Combat Command A/4th Armored Division lay between the Germans and their objective. Following an inconclusive day of skirmishing east of Arracourt on 19 September, Lt. Colonel Abram's reinforced 37th Tank Battalion struck back against the scattered 111th Panzer Brigade southeast of Lezey around Moncourt. The resulting melee pushed the abilities of the American tankers to the limit, but now Abrams knew where the enemy was. All that remained was to defeat him!
