St. Vith, 50km S of Aachen, Germany: [Best played against Human opponent] 16 December marked the start of the massive German attack in the Ardennes with the objective of splitting the western Allied coalition. The German LXVI Corp had the initial tasks of destroying the American 106th Infantry divison as well as capturing the vital crossroads of St. Vith. By the morning of the 17th, the 18th VG Division, LXVI Corp had encircled two regiments of the 106th. Its mobile battalion pushed forward toward St. Vith. Elements of the 62nd VG Division, LXVI Corp also approached St. Vith from the southeast. The Fuehrer Begleit brigade struggled forward through crowded and poor roads to take its place in the seizure of St. Vith. American forces responded to the isolation of the 106th division by rushing a relief force composed of CCB/9th Armored and CCB/7th Armored to the St. Vith area. Unfortunately, the 106th would not be rescued by this relief force. Events were moving too quickly. These American armored troops quickly found themselves in a fight for their own survival just holding St. Vith.

Good scenario. The current games played balance surprises me though.

Ineresting terrain and lots of varied soft and hard targets on both sides make for an interesting scenario. Both sides must be careful not to attack too hard, or be too cautious. Scouting is essential for both sides.
Thus, what is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy's strategy.

"Dash to St Vith", or, "Panthers in the Mud". Will St Vith fall before the US reinforcements arrive? That is the question...

Allies enjoy (at least) a 4-1 or 5-1 ratio of Allied armor versus Axis armor. Allies also have a large artillery force, including (at least) 4-6 SPAs and air support. Extremely difficult to impossible for an Axis player to win against an equally skilled Allied player.

Two things are essential for the Americans. 1) prevent the Germans from getting a foothold in St. Vith. 2)prevent the Germans from flanking to the north. If the Germans accomplish one of those, they have a chance at victory. If the Germans accomplish both, victory is assured.

Great map, good pbem balance and lots of options. The Axis player will have to be smart.

being on the Allies side, seemed to be an embarrassing amount of reinforcements coming into play throughout the game -stopping the Germans cold.

I like it, can go either way, depends on what each side does in attacking and or defending.
