Field Marshall von Rundstedt telephoned Koechling and told him to remind the commander of the 246th Volksgrenadier Division once more and with the utmost emphasis that he will hold this venerable German city to the last man. If necessary, he will allow himself to be buried in its ruins. The warning was clear. His counterattack had to succeed. The composite group of Rink's 1st SS and the survivors of the 246th Division's 404th Regiment would counterattack within Aachen itself. Jumping off from the area of the Passdenstrasse, the battle group would push into the northern end of the Farwich Park, close to the Quellenhof, and drive back the point of Colonel Seitz's 26th U.S. Infantry Regiment.

An extremely unusual scene; odd OB and positioning of forces.
