A Rat by the Tail - The Matrix Games version of West Front

Corano, 50km NW of Naples, Italy: [Best played as Allied] Once across the Volturno River the British 10th Corps continued its slow progress north along Italy's western coast. The task of clearing Highway 7 and the pass at Cascano was given to the 46th Infantry Division while the 7th Armoured Division by-passed the rough terrain and pushed up the coast. But the British infantry became bogged down in the hilly country and stopped cold by a blocking force from the German 15th PzG Division. Having met little resistance along the coast, on 31 October the 7th Armoured dispatched a task force from the 22nd Armoured Brigade to strike the German delaying force from behind. As the British tanks and armored cars moved past the quiet village of Corano, 6km SW of Cascano, a hail of artillery shells and the crack of anti-tank guns broke the stillness! Within moments panzers from the 115th Panzer Battalion joined in the melee. Surprised by the initial onslaught, the "Desert Rats" quickly regrouped and charged the German tanks.
