Mokmer, 11km ESE of Bosnek, Biak Island off northern coast of New Guinea: [Best played against Human opponent] In the final days of the campaign for New Guinea, the smaller islands off the northern coast had to be secured before American troops under General MacArthur could take the next step toward their goal, the Philippines. One of the larger of these was Biak, east of the Vogelkop Peninsula, garrisoned by the Japanese reinforced 222nd Infantry Regiment and support elements from the 36th Division. Once ashore near Bosnek on May 27th, the 41st Infantry Division's 162nd RCT, part of Hurricane Task Force, advanced west to seize the three airstrips northwest of Mokmer. Late on the 28th, the 2nd and 3rd Battalions brushed through light resistance along the coast road between the sea and a long terrace of high escarpment, supported by a few pieces of armor from the 603rd Tank Battalion. Suddenly, Japanese tanks appeared followed by a column of infantry taking the 3rd Battalion GIs by surprise, beginning an infantry melee and the first battle involving tanks on both sides in the southwest Pacific.

A good slugfest match between superior Allied ranged firepower and vicious Japanese assault..it's a good 'un IMHO
Jeepster777
Very intense close range "in your face type scenario" where IJA attackers try assaulting a American held road near the shore....Good game to try your Banzai skills......
and with a small amount of armour on both sides this is one serious fight...

One of the best small scenarios. Those who like to keep their forces intact need not play this one. Both sides must risk their forces if they hope to succeed.

Well balanced & victory was just 1 turn away from becoming a defeat. One of the better CS scenarios & well worth a try.

Great scenario. My americans really had to work to prevent Hawk from exiting off the north edge of the board, but delaying tactics combined with artillery did the job. A tough fight!
Thus, what is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy's strategy.

A battle in which I recognized early on, that the secret to victory was not to exit, but to kill everything I saw, capture every town I could, and take as few casualties as possible. The U.S. took nearly as many casualties as the Japanese on this one, which was a huge point boost for me. Hawk Kriegsman certainly did his best to even the odds with captures, and no units were exited from the exit hexes. A bloody scenario that almost went to minor v. at the last turn.

The Japanese hammered and chewed up the Americans for 2/3 of the game. But combination of off-board artillery and American firepower caught the Japanese in an attrition strangle hold that was unrecoverable. In the end the Americans got a minor victory. Four turns before that the Japanese had minor victory. Strange outcome!

Jap side has a lot going for it. American player needs to be careful.

A slugfest, well-balanced. The Shermans are a bit OP, but I did manage to take out a few of them with my Japanese "tanks" at close range.
