Roi Island, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands: [Best played as Allied] On the same day the American 7th Infantry Division began amphibious landings on Kwajalein Island, the 4th Marine Division launched another assault on the northern side of Kwajalein Atoll. The targets of the Marine attack were Roi and Namur, two small islands connected by a strip of coral and a manmade causeway, defended by elements of the 61st Guard Force. Simultaneous landings were made with the capture of the airfield complex on Roi assigned to the 23rd Marine Regimental Landing Team. After unexpected losses in landing craft and unexpectedly choppy seas that disorganized the assault waves, the Marines finally churned towards shore in their LVTs and LCVPs while the preparatory bombardment was lifted. As the shells stopped raining from the sky, the Japanese defenders crawled from their deep shelters and quickly re-manned pillboxes and bunkers to meet the invaders with a murderous crossfire of steel. This scenario is very winnable as the Japanese even though all units are fixed for the duration. Pick your targets carefully and don't forget to set your defensive fire to optimize your personal preferences. The Marines need to use smoke, especially until they make landfall, and get out of the LVT(A)2's quickly. Even though they have an armor defense of "2" they are very vulnerable. And at 4 points apiece can sway the outcome of the battle. A fun and fast scenario for both sides.
