The successful assassination of the Furher on Jul 20 1944 lead to partial peace and restoration of the Weimer Republic. The Wehrmacht retreated to Germany's pre-war borders. The Soviets however launched a major offensive in Spring 1945, crushed Allied Poland in two weeks and swept through East Prussia. With the token occupation force of Western allies in reeling retreat, the smaller but tougher German army was allowed to pick up arms again. Facing Zhukov's First Belorussian Front was none other than Field Marshal Erwin Rommel's re-organized Army Group North, spearheaded by First Prussian Panzer Division. Today, contact is made with leading elements of the 5th Guards conducting a mop-up on the Sealow heights. The main Russian force is battling a huge traffic jam on its way up. Rommel's orders were simple:take advantage of the chaos after the Russian breakthrough and destroy half of the Fifth Guards Tank Army east of Berlin!
