Hollow Triumph - The Matrix Games version of East Front II

Bryle, E of Mogilev, 195km E of Minsk: NIGHT [Best played against Human opponent] Three years after Germany began the invasion of the Soviet Union, and following a successful winter campaign against Army Group South, the Red Army launched a massive offensive against Army Group Center. Codenamed Operation Bagration! With Minsk as its objective, on June 23rd the Second Belorussian Front smashed into the German 4th Army towards Mogilev and Orsha following a massive artillery barrage. Disorder was rampant in the Axis High Command and all along the front confusing orders were issued and countermanded in rapid succession until the forward defenses were in chaos. Panzergrenadier Division "Feldherrnhalle" was positioned west of Mogilev waiting for the arrival of replacements and additional panzers from Germany and Norway. Ordered east in a hollow gesture to stem the tide of mechanized units pouring through the shattered lines, "Feldherrnhalle's" panzers went into action against the Russian onslaught late on the 25th near Bryle. Advancing through the summer night, the leading elements of Kampfgruppe Gebhardt were soon embroiled in a point blank range knife fight to the death with T-34s and JS-IIs from the 43rd Gds Tank Brigade.
