Hill 247, 30km NW of Belgorod: [Best played as Axis or against Human opponent] By the 14th of July it was apparent that the German goals of Operation Citadel would not be achieved. On the far left of the southern pincer, the 3rd Panzer had stalled just north of Bereskova. Four days earlier, the Gross Deutschland Division, which had made deeper advances further to the east had been ordered to wheel west toward Hill 247, to flank the Soviet defenders and clear the way for 3rd Panzer. As a result, on the 11th, 3rd Panzer had been able to occupy Hill 247 and Gross Deutschland was withdrawn east for rest and replacements. That very night, however, 3rd Panzer was thrown off the hill back to the same line it occupied on the 10th. The situation on the left flank was now such that any thought of attacking north would have to be postponed. On the morning of July 14th, Gross Deutschland received its orders; attack west again, capture Hill 247 and clean up the Russian armor in the woods to the south.

This one is tough to win as the Axis player. The Axis has a small powerful force but with little ability to destroy Russian infantry at a distance. When the time comes to close the distance and get VP hexes, the Russian infantry takes a heavy toll on the Germans.
