Crossroads to Disaster - The Matrix Games version of East Front II

Bolshoye Shchapovo, 4km NE of Klin, 80km NNW of Moscow: [Best played as Allied or against Human opponent] After two days, the Soviet winter counteroffensive had made considerable gains. The 30th Army had attacked north of the Sestra River, driving west between the German 14th and 36th Motorized Divisions. Its goal was to capture the road junction at Klin, the heart of the 3rd Panzer Group's supply line. On December 7th, Russian troops moved on Bolshoye Shchapovo, a small town about 4 km northeast of Klin - and the site of the LVI Panzer Corps' headquarters. A mixed group of defenders, including the headquarters staff, barely managed to hold the town. During the night, both sides received reinforcements and at 0830 on December 8th, a Russian artillery bombardment announced the attack that would decide the fate of the 3rd Panzer Group. This battle is the second in a series, depicting four phases of the Soviet 1941 winter counteroffensive.
