Ie Shima #2, D+2*
*
Date: April 18, 1945*
*
Battle Location: Ie Shima Island, north-east of Okinawa*
*
Battle Type: US Marines Assault vs Japanese Defend*
*
If play against the AI, the human player should the US Marines side.*
*
Units: 337*
Turns: 20*
*
Description: This scenario represents the advance of the 77st US Army Division on Ie Shima (part of the operation "Iceberg") on April 18, 1945 (D+2) and should be played only from the US Army side.*
*
Orders:*
*
You are in command of 305th RCT (minus 2nd Btl), the 306th RCT and the 307th RCT (minus 1st Btl) and the 706th Tank Btl, all of the 77th Infantry Division and attached troops. Your enemy consists of the 1st Battalion, 44th Independent Mixed Brigade, the 50th Airfield Battalion and the 50th Specially Established Infantry Battalion, in all approx. 2.000 men.*
*
Today, all of our regiments will advance. The 305th RCT and 307th RCT have the order to capture Ie Town, while 306th RCT will capture the area north of the pinnacle. Expect heavy resistance in Ie Town. The 706th Tank Battalion will land soon (turn 8) to support your attack.
*
The japanese were not able to evacuate all the civilians from the island. Try to keep civilian looses as low as possible. But: Take and hold the objectives. Good luck!*
*
Gameplay Notes/Tips: Move your troops only to the victory hexes and the approx. connecting line between them, because the next scenario will start at these points. Stay in the regimental borders, marked on the map. Some of your planes/artillery/spotter have preplaned orders, dont change them. You can use them at your own will if they appear in the bomardment menu (key B). Make heavy use of your close air support and spotter planes and the artillery.*
*
Designer Notes: The troops strength (US Army and Japanese) is reduced to 33%. The Japanese side have some reinforcements to simulate sheltered/hidden troops, this means you are not able to see or destroy all the enemy with your bombardment or locate them with your spotter planes. A large number of the original units have been changed in the editor.*

Designer attempted to "create" civilians for the Japanese side. They were squads stripped of all ammo and it was the Japanese side charged when the Americans killed them.
Totally ridiculous.
Also the designer stripped the majority of the Japanese troops (not in bunkers) of any movement points. They could not even rotate in their own hex. How he left them in the editor was the facing they were stuck with for the whole game.
Victory flag placement was poor, whether for solo or pbem play. Since the Japs could not move, there was no way for them to recapture the vhs.
This battle is a total waste of time either solo or pbem.
