During the opening of the Warsaw Pact offensive in Europe, the Polish 6th Pomersk Airborne Division is dropped at Rensburg in Schlewig-Holstein, seizing the main highway bridge over the Nord-Ostee Canal. This cut 7 Autobahn, the main north-south artery through Schleswig-Holstein between Denmark and the battlefields of the North German Plain.*
*
AFNORTH orders the Danish Jvtland Division-in reality a small brigade-to drive south down 7 Autobahn and recapture the bridge at Rensburg. The Danes are joined by the West German 513th Panzer and the 511th PanzerGrenadier Battalions at Flensburg and the force makes contact with the dug in Poles outside of Alt Duvenstedt, 3 kilometers northwest of the bridge, on the night of June 13th.*
*
The CG, Jvtland Division, plans a dawn attack for the 14th with the Jvtland Dragoons seizing and holding Alt Duvenstedt to prevent reinforcement or counterattack from Rensburg. The two West German battalions will continue to push southward down the Autobahn, clearing the NaturPark Huttener Berge where it is astride the Highway and opening the road for the remainder of the Jvtland Division to drive to the bridge across the Nord-Ostee Canal.*
