Vop river, 120 km E of Vyazma: As part of the initial phase of "Operation Typhoon", the LVI Corps had orders to break through the Soviet defensive line on the northern wing of Army Group Center. The 6th Panzer Division had established a small bridgehead over the Vop river, in preparation for the planned breakthrough attempt.
