Talavera 28th July 1809 - Despite the repulse of both the French night and dawn assaults against the Cerro de Medellin on the left flank of the Allied line, Victor remained eager to make a further attempt to defeat the enemy. This time he attacked both the British centre and right, whilst leaving just Milhaud's dragoons to observe the entire Spanish army - over 30,000 strong - deployed on the right of the British in a strong defensive position to protect Talavera.
