098 Cadiz: Fort Matagorda - WDS Bonaparte's Peninsular War

Cadiz: Fort Matagorda - Fearing that the French might occupy the ruined fort of Matagorda and use this and the other forts to control the sea passage and bombard fort Puntales, the Spanish and their British allies decided to reoccupy Matagorda. The defenses facing the mainland were quickly repaired and a garrison of British artillery and a company of 94th regiment installed. The French responded by increasing the number of guns on the Trocadero to 40 and bombarding the fort until the British evacuated the remaining garrison on 22 April. This "what if" scenario assumes that the French lost patience and attempted to capture it by direct assault prior to the evacuation.
