17 October 1806 (Historical) The Prussian Reserve Corps under Wurrtemburg was posted at Halle in reserve and thus missed all of the action at Jena-Auerstedt. Likewise, the French I Corps under Bernadotte had not taken any part in the fighting and the Marechal was not in Napoleon's favor after having failed to come to the aid of Davout on the 14th. On the 17th, Bernadotte's corps was enroute to Halle from the west when the I Corps cavalry ran into the advanced guard of the Reserve Corps. The battle that followed saw the French make a quick assault into the city and hold out until more reinforcements arrived. A general assault was ordered and the French carried the day. Still another victory over the Prussian forces. Bernadotte's honor was restored with Napoleon due to this victory. Intended for head to head play.
