By the start of July 1944, it was clear that what was becoming the Destruction of Army Group Center would be decided by events at Minsk. Capture of the city would permit the encirclement and destruction of several German formations.

One of the escape routes was the Stolbtsky Highway, crossing the Berezina River behind a group of small hills south of the city. On the 1st of July 1944, Infantry Division 170, reduced to battalion strength, was once again rocked by Soviet attacks and forced to withdraw.

Abandoning a series of small villages, such as Letornovski, the Germans attempted to solidify a defence on the hills overlooking the highway as Rotmistrov's Fifth Guards Army poured troops into the breach.

CM breaks down when you are ambushing or if you have los on the spawn for the other player, and this scenario is the latter. I understand the intent was to capture a board game scenario, but you can always have reinforcements spawn behind building or something.

Furthermore rough terrain and trees didn't really match up to my satisfaction. Just seemed random.

Other than that seemed ok.

Seems very tilted in the Germans favor. They start with the high ground and clear LOS to the Russians.

this is a great scenario that gives challenges to both sides to use their trumps. the side that does this wins. my opinion is the game is drawish because of early soviet activity. a good player would be hard pressed to force a win against a good german since the Russian is outflanked and faces rear los enfilade from the p4s if he wishes to secure the right flank. the Russian has a good defilade hole to hide in near the objectives and so can play for draw or even win if careless german try and force the issue. great stuff
The biggest insult to human intelligence which is considerable in my opinion. Is the notion that the universe made itself. Has anyone ever see a star form? Come on people. what will they tell us now? The earth is flat?

I played this against the computer with both sides, so I have little idea about what the PBEM balancing is--I think it should be balanced well enough--both sides seemingly have chances to win.

However, I have to reiterate that an otherwise enjoyable scenario is marred by the Soviet reinforcements spawning in LOS frequently. The map on the Soviet side really needs to be expanded back so that the Soviets can appear more realistically. I also agree that the hilly terrain could have been done a little better.

Russian highly unnaturally pressed against the edge of the map. It's not the complexity, which adds realism. Overall, the balance shifted to the German side
