East of Estry, Aug 3rd 1944: Maj "Ned" Thorburn, commander of D Coy. 4 KSLI, had set up an outpost on the left flank of the main Bn. position. He had nearly withdrawn from the hilltop farm of les Grand Bonaits the previous evening, but his CO had seen the value of the position and reinforced it with a squadron of tanks and a couple of infantry platoons.
