The Cotentin Peninsula, South of Cherbourg: June 6th, 1944. (Scenario Size: Corps. Head to Head or Team Play, Human vs AI for either side) The Great Crusade began just after midnight on June 6th with the landing of the US 101st Airborne Division closely followed by the 82nd Airborne. The paratroopers aim was to secure the causeways off Utah Beach to protect the amphibious landing of the US 4th Infantry Division while blocking any German reserves from crossing the Douve River. More significantly the aim of landing in the Cotentin Peninsula was to allow the quickest access to Cherbourg, the largest deep water port in Normandy. The first day of landings would be chaotic with both scattered airdrops and vigorous German responses to the Allied interlopers.

The US paras where weaker as they took severe losses in the landings. This meant when the main German forces came on the scene they could not really stand up to them.

The initial paradrop can cost the Allies 400 - 600 points which is hard to overcome. It really decides the level of victory for the game. The Allies have to take Carentan to achieve a minor victory, the other objective are too small to swing it either way. Otherwise the points are at the draw range closer to an Axis minor.

Points aside, the battle is tense the entire game with lots of maneuver for both sides. Great game for mirror play. One of my favorites in PBN.
