(this is a direct copy of my post on the WDS forum, apologies for any weird formatting)

Hello everyone. Many of you surely know about Jison's MapMod series (as of 2024 his linked website is no longer accessible). I noticed this thread where some people seemed interested in having it brought back. I myself used to always use his mods until the engine update. Unfortunately Jison has not released a MapMod for any game past Japan '45, and they have all been rendered unusable by the 4.00 updates and the new zoom level. Having just updated the El Jarama '37 mod to the modern engine I wondered how easy it would be to update Jison's mods myself, since I haven't seen anyone else do this yet.

It actually turned out to not be that complicated, as generally the work involved just meant scaling up some images (similarly to what was done by WDS for the First World War series, where Jison's GFX is officially integrated), and since most games in the series share the same color palette a lot was as simple as copy pasting. Nonetheless, the sheer amount of games in the series, my ambition to make versions for games that Jison had not officially supported, and testing to check for potential issues, all combined to make this a many hours ordeal. I also encountered the issues of Filipino and Norwegian troops, which were not present in any game Jison modded. I whipped out Photoshop and did my best to mimic his Unitbox style, which I hope looks convincing enough. There was also an issue with a missing NATO symbol for partisans, which I fixed. It should also be noted that since I am just scaling up images the units and hexes may not appear as "crisp" in quality in the full zoom level as it would with the vanilla game. There's nothing I can do about that unfortunately.

Please note that I am not able to test every game, and it is certainly possible that I made mistakes while putting this together, so I would greatly appreciate feedback and reporting of any issues encountered. I'll try my best to make fixes ASAP after they are reported.

Naturally credit goes to Jison for the original mods. If he takes issue with me posting these I am happy to take down the links. I will also of course be happy to remove this post if/when official updates are made by Jison.

So, with all that said, I present my collection of updated MapMod versions:

These will require JSGME (Generic Mod Enabler) or a similar software to install without having to overwrite files. If you'd rather just install directly I'd recommend making a complete backup of your game folder beforehand.

As advised by Jison on his website, the "Hex Outlines" setting should be turned off.
At some point I would like to make a variant for Tunisia '43, as the desert hexes are not very accurate to the real life terrain in that region. If you prefer authenticity the vanilla map textures from WDS are far more accurate.
I also updated these, and they can be found in the big folder or linked below. Just drop the included Map folder on to the Map folder of your chosen MapMod and overwrite, or install as a mod in JSGME and enable after the MapMod (this will spit out a warning, but it will be fine).

The reason for multiple versions is because the GFX file containing fortifications is the same as the one with supply sources and deception units, which have varying colors between the different groups of games.

Alternative NATO Symbols:

As requested by @Alex1414 I have also made an alternate version of the NATO symbols to remove the "rounding" on the corners of the symbols in the 200x zoom. By default these updated MapMods use a modified version of the Jison NATO symbols WDS created for the First World War games when they added 200x zoom, but this submod will make them look a bit more faithful to Jison's original style. You can see how those look here: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1123091796545781813/1206511824942661712/image.png?ex=65dc46b2&is=65c9d1b2&hm=98ce5ddd07679bc403e4a3204728b4e29641b39d8dd2c4a8db63f3e88888fcb6&.

For the same reason as the alternative markers these have to be broken up by the groups of games.
Additionally, Jison's MapMod's do not include slope hex sides, so using any of these mods you will see no difference when enabling or disabling the "Map Slopes" setting. I am unsure why Jison did not support this feature, but I have added a submod that includes them, which is based on the files in Strela's "Jison Mapmod for JTS (non Gold) Versions" post on The Blitz. Eventually I may just integrate this into the main files.

Modern Campaign Mods

So after making my Zovs-Mods for the FWWC I decided to port that work into MCs with the idea of retrofitting both of these projects back into my original Panzer Campaign board war game mod (Zovs-Mods). Well as it turned out, this was also a pretty large project and complete overhaul both my ideas and MC's in general.

Map

Ported over my bridge artwork.

Ported over my enlarged unit symbols artwork.

Changed the way HQs symbols are displayed by using the more traditional board wargame HQ symbiology for HQ's (i.e. the alternating filled in square boxes) and by also adding a flag staff to the symbol (I find this to be very useful when units are "hidden" behind victory point objectives or when in travel mode).

Added new symbols for missiles and helicopters, etc.

Added static AAA counters for Mid-East '67 (did not notice the in the other series).

Updated and corrected some symbols I originally created.

Updated the HQ color band.

Updated the HQ size.

Updated the alternate HQ symbols.

Updated/modified all the artwork for the on map Mines, Bunkers, Improved Positions, Obstacles, Pillboxes, Trenches, and Forts.

Updated the NBC artwork for all three sizes (originally only 2D large and 2D mag had these).

Updated all the objective value boxes color bevel and increased the size of the VP box (currently this box is 1 or 2 pixels too small to fully display the VP number in 2D mag. for the PzC and MC series)

Hello guys, I'm working on a mod for Modern Campaigns Danube front trying to recreate the current Russo-Ukraine conflict. I just started with some graphics for units, you can check the screenshots.

I'm not satisfied with how the graphics look when rendered in the game, they are very low quality, and I got some blue outlines on the edges. Does somebody know how to get rid of those? I'm using photoshop to create these pictures and rename them in the game folder.

Also, is it possible to use a different map from another panzer campaign game and use it in Danube Front, like for example from Kharkiv 42'?

Thank you, and please let me know what you think.

Panzer Campaigns – Zovs Mods

Design Notes
I have finally finished my initial (Phase I) Panzer Campaign modifications called "Zovs-Mods" for all 27 titles. The total statistics thus far for Phase I form windows shows: Total size is 298 MBs (size on disk is 304 MBs), total package contains 2,523 files, and 373 folders (note some files are repeated like for example German or Russian-Guards, etc.).

Currently this modification includes over 446 individual file modifications for the series:

New on map counter colors with a ‘flat’ board war game type of look and feel. Reworked all on map counters (266 files) for all 5 zoom levels (2DSymbolsSm, 2DSymbolsLg, 2DSymbolsMag, 3DCounters50, 3DCounters100, 3Dsymbols50 and 3DSymbols100) for each nation. I basically converted all counters to a board war game counter look and feel. This included recoloring all the nationalities based loosely off either board war game counter colors or in some cases national flag colors or some parts of uniforms (i.e., for the NKVD and VMF - Soviet Naval troops).

New Victory Point national flags. Reworked all VP flags for all the nations (38 total nations right now in the series) for all 5 zoom levels, the basic idea here was to use or mimic historical flags for each nation (for 'flavor' I added an extra flag for the SS, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, and the USMC although it could be argued that the national flag works best here). Note I also corrected the max zoomed in VP display box, the original file is 2 pixels too small, and I corrected this.

New unit type symbols. Reworked all three 2D unit symbols for on map units (2DSymbolsSm, 2DSymbolsLg, and 2DSymbolsMag) to use symbols based loosely off board war games (mainly Europa) and for max zoomed in 2D level made them thicker for us old school war game folks. Also, for this mod I put a yellow HQ stripe for all CC, TF/HQs on the 2DSymbolsMag files. Some new symbols include new rocket, mortar, RR entrained, Engineer, Tank Engineer, Recon, Bicycle, Motorcycle, Heavy AA, Light AA, AT, and TD. Also changed Partisans, Irregular forces, and the Supply counter symbols. I also changed the bridge laying symbols so they are subtle but stand out more on both 2D large and 2D mag levels.

New UI panels and function. Also included is a complete rework of the UI Panels (18 files) to give a steel plate and rivet look for all four positions (top, bottom, left and right), including scroll buttons when the hex contains more units than can be seen in the unit panel.

New Unit Info Boxes. Created, brand new Unit Info Boxes (45 total for all the unique nations and sub-nations forces in the series), which also includes a mini-national flag, and I created a different way to know when you have selected or deselected units and with this unit info box mod I made the unit info panel darker so that when you right click you can better read the detailed unit information. I thought being able to read the data here was a key factor to game play.

New movement arrows. I made brand new movement arrows for three of the zoom levels (2D only; 2DSymbolsSm, 2DSymbolsLg, and 2DSymbolsMag, the 3D movement arrows are still red).

New Turn Phase boxes. Added new Turn Phase box artwork for all titles in the series (9 in total for all 27 titles), here I used mainly the national flag(s) for this area. In some cases, multiple flags (i.e., US and UK).

New Cover (at start splash screen) for all 27 titles. Lastly, I put my own spin on the at start splash screens. The idea here was to keep the WDS vibe but add my “artistic” touch to them.

All 27 zip files are GME (or JGME) compatible for each game. These mods won't necessarily work with Jison modifications because I changed a lot of the files that he also changed. That being said if you like his maps look and feel you can use just those but its recommended to use my 2DSymbols and Unit info art work instead (his work is older and has not been updated to any of the 4.00 WDS standards in regards to all the 2DSymbols files, many missing new features which my mod deals with).

Phase II will take a bit longer and in that phase I am going to update all the unit counters in the unit info box to also include use of both the flat board war game counters and the board war game unit symbology, but that will take probably six months or so. I started phase I in December, and it took about two months just for this work. So, I have decided to release Phase I now since its completely playable right now and you can just plug in Phase II when its complete.

You can download and access the files and view the instructions here:

I've been trying to get my hands on the old Panzer/Modern Campaigns version 2.0 map graphics but with no luck. So I figure why not create a mod using the Panzer Battles maps graphics. Except I have no clue how and little time to dedicate to it.

So is there anybody here willing to assist with helping create such a mod that would be compatible with both Panzer Campaigns and Modern Campaigns using Panzer Battles map graphics?

Depending on the degree of assistance there will be a gift card or two on the table.....

Let me know
