Calvados Coast for a beginner

RE: Calvados Coast for a beginner
Hi,
I resume the game this afternoon. I have a question : I have the opportunity to encircle and kill a german General Division.

Does it give more points ?
Will that make the leaders under his direction "out of command" ?

Turn 13

On the sector of SMN SteelWork, the 8th Parachute Bn find the Headquarter of 21 Panzer Division, which is commanded by General Major Feuchtinger !

On the North, near the “Chateau Of Merville”, the 1st Cdn Parachute Bn take the battery gun !

On the Beach, the troops acquire step by step the terrain.

On sword beach, I have the reinforcement of the 20th Anti-tank Regiment, with M10 GMC tank (31/10 on hard target !), and the 76th Field Artillerie Regiment, with M7 Priest Tank (Indirect fire).
I win Colleville plage.

Soldiers on Sword Beach

I also have reinforcement on Juno beach, with the 12th Field Artillery Regiment.
On Juno and Gold beach I do not take point at this time !

Let see the victory dialog, where I take a total of 125 objectives points !

The losses are :

-290 men, 5 guns, 15 vehicles, 4 boats for me
-287 men, 14 guns, 2 vehicles for the Axis

The losses are still important, but when the beach will be taken that will be less bloody for me I hope !

RE: Calvados Coast for a beginner
Hi, a new day and a new turn !
Indeed, a full turn take 1h to 1h30 to play, the landing beach take a lot of time !

6 June 1944 : 09:30

Turn 14

On sector of SMN, thanks to an air bombing I start to take the advantage !

On the sector of Ranville, The germains had retaken Varanville. The 1st Cdn Parachute Bn will go there.
The 7th and 13th Parachute Bn still hold the position.

On sword Beach
I have reinforcement with the 5th Bn The King's Regt, and the Staffordshire Yeo Regt (amoured).
I take the “brèche d'Hermanville”. The German bunkers will be taken soon.

On Gold Beach

I have reiforcement with the 2sd The Devonshire Regt.
There are 2 german bunkers still alive.
My troops try to get passage between polder and mine. I have a lot of casualties !

On Juno beach
The largest beach, still on the German hand.
There is 5 passage to take.

Let's see the victory dialog

I earn 25 victory point.

The losses are :
-303 men, 11 guns, 10 vehicles and 5 boats for me

If the 8th are at Collombelles are they not out on a limb well ahead of the rest of the Brigade? The fact that you have run into 21st Panzer headquarters suggests you may end up behind enemy lines?

Loving the AAR though. I don't have PzB so I'll be following this to see how it plays.

The 8th was dropped far away south at the beginning. So Sure I am behind enemy lines. I see German reinforcement form the south, but the 8th is not enough strong to kill them all !
So I decided to go west in order to take objective point.
I hope I do not make a mistake !

RE: Calvados Coast for a beginner
The turn time is long now !
The time for Axis turn is 25 minutes.
Yesterday I past 2 hours for Arty, and moove middle and Gold Beach !
It is not easy to get out of the beach, with many ditch and polder, so my Armoured are often blocked !

1) The Enginneers can destroy ditch ?

2)The tanks can not go on Polder ? I try to see parameter data and on armoured I see 0MP for Polder. That's say The armoured can't go on polder ?

2) On terrain infomation, there is the word "Primary" and "Secondary".
What are these terms ?

Yes I guess the whole of 6th Airborne is behind enemy lines.  Smile I think what I meant to say is that they are on their own and unsupported and possibly will be destroyed. It's quite an ambitious move as Collombelle is on the out skirts of Caen.

Here is a quick map I made up using the PzC Normandy map. The map is from Max Hasting's book Overlord although I have seen it before in some other publications.

By the way its nice to see someone else using Screenpresso.  Smile

Turn 15

In this turn we focus on the 3 beachs.
The main action is to finish landing men, clearing mines and obstacles.
I have to reogarnize troops, because lot of casualties I had.

Gold Beach

It is difficult for tank to have a passage because there is polder and ditch (pink dash on picture).
The first line of germain is now destroy.
We fight again the second line.
Our first line come near Meuvaines

Village of Meuvaines

Juno beach

Same things here. There is a river who protect the west side of german center army, and a stream on north.
We must get around them and pass the bridge on Graye-sur-Mer

Graye Bridge at Courseulles

Sword beach

The beach is now ours.
We go on Hermanville-sur-mer, Colleville-sur-Orne and Ouistreham !

There is lot of mines among the fields and road.

Now see the victory dialog.

I win 50 objectives point !

The losses are :

-252 men, 2 guns, 12 vehicles, 1 boat and 1 plane for me
-384 men, 4 guns, 6 vehicles for the axis.

I start to take the advantage, Axis have 50% more loss men than I!

Turn 17

We concentrate on the british airborn, on the sector of “Le Mesnil”.
We have a column of Panzer IVD who go north. I try to come back the arty gun in order to stop this invasion.
On south, on sector of CMN, I was lucky, I spotted a hundred men of Panzergrenadier, and my HMS Warspite kill 54 men in one shot !
Now there is only 3X men !

I got 125 objective point
The loss are :

-203 men, 8 guns and 9 vehicles for me
-383 men, 18 guns and 3 vehicles for the Axis.
