This book drastically exceeded my expectations. I had read Norman Stone's East Front book, Wawro's A Mad Catasrophe, and Sweetman's Tannenberg. While not as comprehensively focused on Tannanberg as Sweetman's excellent book, it provides a great overview of the East Front Combatants and all the major campaigns of 1914 on the East Front. I found his explanations of the Galicia campaign easier to follow than Wawro's AND Buttar's description of the Lodz campaign is the most thorough I have read.

Indeed, it is an outstanding book. And he is releasing another book in August focused on the Eastern Front in 1915.

Now if we could just get a Tiller title covering the same period.
