Yes, all good points. I didn't remember that about the Commandos earlier, and the assaulting to cause disruptions.
Have to view the allied assaults like a battering ram, just keep assaulting and bombarding the defenses turn after turn, all the while you are trying to squeeze through and around. Eventually the Germans will give way. :)
The only way you will get a historical result on turn 3 is to have some kind of withdrawal or get very lucky. But like I said, you cannot take everything literally, sometimes the lesser of two evils (and I believe this to the case here) is to have the defenses more sturdy lest the whole line of resistance falls to pieces before the Germans can historically reinforce the area south of the beaches.
