Napoleonic Game Format Poll
Bill Peters is a scenario designer who helped design several titles from the very popular HPS Napoleonic Battles Series including Eckmuhl, Wagram, Jena-Auerstedt, and Austerlitz.

He is trying to get some input from current and future game owners as to what preferences they enjoy or would like to see in the future.

In the past, Bill has used a 10 minute turn format and squadron sized cavalry units in his titles listed above.

He would like to know which time format and cavalry sized units you would like to see used in future titles.

The choices are:

  1. 10 Minute Turns with Squadron sized Cavalry Units
  2. 10 Minute Turns with Regiment sized Cavalry Units
  3. 15 Minute Turns with Squadron sized Cavalry Units
  4. 15 Minute Turns with Regiment sized Cavalry Units

If you have any comments, please feel free to post them.

Might want to consider posting about this poll at Wargamer & GameSquad as well, to get a bit more exposure.

OK, thanks for the suggestion. I agree; the more, the better.

Is there any reason why the Nappy games can't steal a trick from PzC and have regiments that can break down into squadrons?

You can break them into squadrons. There are actually some squadron only based battles for HPS Waterloo you can download from the HPS website. Personally though I find those games too slow and they are very tedious imo.

I thought of that at one point - you know, have the higher org the regiment and then allow the unit to break down into individual squadron units.

The problem is that John Tiller would have to totally recode the OB format. Just a bit too much to ask him to do.

The ACW series could use this with the different batteries but alas even in the Panzer series you cannot mix and match the different weapons in the same ORG unit. Thus a Pzkw IV Unit cannot contain Pzkw IIIs.

Either way you do it there are oddities to the system. With a squadron based system too many units to push around. With a regiment system unhistorical breakdown.

One big advantage to the squadron system is that the fatigue accrual for the unit is normal. I think that for the breakdown squadrons from a regiment that that they accrue fatigue faster.

Actually some are pointing out that the squadrons usually get wiped out LONG before max fatigue ever comes close to happening.

One thing I would like to play around with is lowering the Max fatigue value from 900 to say 600. That would stop some folks from just tossing their units away as the unit would probably rout long before it can become obliterated.
