Do yourself a favor, stay away from them! They are highly addictive and before you know it, you will have several titles and will be complaining like the rest of us, that there aren't enough hours in a day to play your games! Big Grin

....On a serious note, Yes, there are a ton of great titles to choose from. The best suggestion that is always offered to people who have questions like yours is to make sure to select a title that interests you. The Panzer Campaigns Series has a learning curve that is not super easy to become familiar with. It will be easier on you if you are trying to learn the game system while playing a subject matter that you have an interest in.

All of the game titles include small, medium, and large scenarios. So there is not just one title that is designed for newcomers.

Good luck and let us know which title you decided to get.

Also when you make your selection, keep your first scenarios small until you fully understand the game system, many new players try to run before they can walk and that often leads to frustration. ;)

I also forgot to say that there are no "old" titles in the series, the older titles are updated with new features to the same level as the latest ones, so don't feel you have to pick the titles most recently released. ;)

At the risk of sounding like an echo, I think the best way to approach it is to pick a game that covers a topic that you're especially interested in. But keep in mind that many of the games will feel very different (even though they have the same rules) because the situations they portray have different characteristics. So if you want to play a blitzkrieg panzer assault you're probably better off playing Smolensk than Normandy.

Apart from that, my current favorite (and it's been my favorite since it came out) is France 1914. It uses the same basic engine as the Panzer Campaign games, but because of some subtle rules differences has a totally different feel. A very elegant piece of work that really makes Barbara Tuchman's Guns of August come alive.
History is a bad joke played by the living on the dead.

In case you are not aware of it, there is a Mini Panzer Campaigns game you can download for free and it includes a very informative Player's Guide which will help you out.

You can get the free download here: http://johntillersoftware.com/Demos.php
