RE: Why visibility suddenly to 1 hex?
Hey Glenn well the weather part doesn't bother me at all as long as it doesn't snow i like variability but you mentioned in default scenarios you check to make sure your weather is in line but i just checked your default scenario for the big scenario and you guys have 1 and 3 in your scenario but have 3 and 5 in the weather file..........

If I understand correctly you have to start the scenario on midnight (12.00) otherwise the first day's weather is not affected by weather.dat no matter you turn the option on or not.

Vionville - I think the scn might have to start on the 9th for the Midnight check on the 10 June line in the weather file to come into play.

The CURRENT Vis at the start of the Big Scn - "#850610_01s_West_Germany" is set to 3

The Weather file for this day says:
10 6 1985 80 20 0 0 0 2 3

As the current Vis at the start of the Scn is 3 and that is within within the range for this day in the Weather file (2 to 3) then this is what I call checked and within the range.

If you opt to NOT USE the Optional Weather rule, then the Vis for the entire game will vary between 1 and 3 and never get above that range. If you want the Vis range to be more than 1-3 in your Mod CG when Optional Weather is not used, than you can pick values that suit you.

RE: Why visibility suddenly to 1 hex?
More on the weather files.

The weather file in my Danube Front game folder, for the first few days looks like this:

10 6 1985 80 20 0 0 0 2 3
11 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 2 4
12 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 2 3
13 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 3 4
14 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 4 5
15 6 1985 80 20 0 0 0 2 4
16 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 3 4
17 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 2 3
18 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 2 3
19 6 1985 70 30 0 0 0 1 2

the weather file copied from this thread is different.

10 6 1985 80 20 0 0 0 3 5
11 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 3 4
12 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 4 5
13 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 4 5
14 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 4 5
15 6 1985 80 20 0 0 0 2 4
16 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 3 4
17 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 2 3
18 6 1985 100 0 0 0 0 2 3
19 6 1985 70 30 0 0 0 1 2

The last day is the same but you can see a lot of other differences. The weather.dat file is only read on the SIDE ONE players game so you can see if SIDE ONE was using the second file, the 13th of Jun could have vis=5 while if the player SIDE TWO had the game default file, he would see the max vis=4 and think something was wrong.

The file being shown in this thread appears to be from the FULDA GAP game. There were some players who complained about the weather in that game and as I didn't design it, so it wasn't my game to"fix"! But I did correct things for NGP and Danube Front default game and this correction appears to be overwritten with the mod that was based on the older FG Game by this Mod.

As long as players like the values, it doesn't matter to me, but I could see where it could get confusing when players were using different weather.dat files.

I think a similar thing may have happened with PDT values as well as I recall.

RE: Why visibility suddenly to 1 hex?
I just dug through my various weather.dat files, knowing that my current one matches, for June, the weather file that Glenn mentioned, and that the CD weather file is as Aaron mentions above. It looks to me like the weather file I have, and maybe Glenn is going to update to match it, came from Bolt out of the Blue, as it changes the default weather - that is the only updated weather file I have, as best I could find on my computer.

I like it when your playing Side 1, and the visibility increases by one so you can see a bunch of units in travel mode at the increased range :)

RE: Why visibility suddenly to 1 hex?
I see why my values don't match now. In Feb 2009 I was contacted by Bob Mayer who reported a problem with Snow in June. I am not even sure what Scn he was playing. Then in Mar 2009 Zemke asked me to include additional periods to the default weather file. there is emails around adjustments that Zemeke and Fury were feeling were good and I went along with. The weatehr file I have and was quoting from hasn't been release yet - but it should be with the next D85 update. And it will include 1985 as well as 1987 and 1989.

Sorry for causing any confusion on this point.
