Windows 7 - about to install
Despite my fear of early installs of MIcrosoft's new platforms my old computer is dying. A pity but the hard drive is 8 years old !
I will transfer all of my XP files and trust that they work with W7
There is an extra program that one can buy to ease the transfer of XP to 7 but as I have XP and SP3 installed I am hoping that I will not need it . Any comments from the wise and the XP users please?

I am an XP user, at least, so here we go :smoke:

I have run Windows 7 at my home computer for a month now, and so far so good.

One of the thing that is changed is the user control system, meaning that parts of the file system are now truly user specific. This is not an issue if you have only one user, but otherwise the public documents should reside in the public folder.

Also, for the other user who are not admin users, the programs they use should not reside in the Program Files folder. Most :) importantly, this means that JTCS should be installed e.g. in the default location it suggests.

Apart from that, the programmes I have used in XP seem to work without a glitch in the new operating system. The notable exception is the JTCS Map editor, which does not work in Win7.

Hope this helped. I am not a PC guru as such...

Edit: Forgot about printers etc. You might have issues with older gadgets in that they do not have a Win 7 driver available. Microsoft seems to have a utility to check for compatibility: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...visor.aspx

I have a HP scanner / ink jet printer that is not that new but was nevertheless supported in W7.
