New HPS titles?

RE: New HPS titles?
I apologize if I caused any offence, hope nobody took my post as a slight on HPS or any games they produce.
Hey I've said it before I've got 50+HPS games stored within arm length of my PC but the last PZC/MC game was released on Dec 2007.
But anyhow as the campaign games last around 6 months or over a year for me to achieve a result good or bad, I'm still playing catch-up. Then it's time to switch sides !!!.
l'll probably bite the bullet first.

Ah....wow....heh....wasn't expecting the new releases.Nice to see a new TWIE release, but not another Squad Battle and Ancient Warfare release.I did have SqB:Winter War and enjoyed it immensly(before I gave to my cousin) but come on.No offense to HPS, but they need to work on PzC/MC series. Not that its bad, but they are focusing on all these other series and totally kicked one of the best selling series they have to curb.If they are pumping out games this fast, the next release better be from Musket &Pike Series.

This is not correct - not sure where it came from or said this - but if it does say it it is in error

Quote:I think TWIE needs a few improvements to make it really good and number one on the list was an OOB editior.

The OOB in WSF is locked just like TFB.

RE: New HPS titles?
Glad to see TWIE make some progress. I ordered it, there are some intriguing situations. It will be interesting to see how the North African battles play out in this system. Really can't wait for the Holy Grail, though (Eastern Front, if you need to be told).

Well, I am pretty sure that Squad Battles, Ancient Warfare, and TWIE fans will be particularly excited about this news. All three are good games, and I have already enjoyed both SB : DBP and WotF.

Not directed at anyone specific:

But please, stop the pissing and moaning about not getting another PzC or MC yet. What good will that do? Naturally, on a PzC/MC forum, people are going to prefer to have one of these two. But PzC and MC have well more the number of titles in it than any other series to date... ;)

I heartily agree. It's getting quite tiresome with all this whining and moaning. Let's appreciate the work people actually do in their spare time making these excellent games.

And I bet there will soon be a new PzC/MC game as well.... :)

Err ... it's in the official release information.

Well at least someone has figured out how to hack the OOB file.

1- Total War in Europe : War on the Southern Front
________________________________________
Introduction and Overview
War on the Southern Front (WSF) is the second instalment of HPS’s Total War in Europe series.
It focuses on the ground and air campaigns fought in the regions surrounding the Mediterranean in 1940-43.
This includes the Italian Invasion of Greece in 1940, the subsequent German invasion of the Balkans, Rommel and the exploits of the Afrika Korps, and the Allied invasion of Sicily.
These campaigns saw a wide range of operations, from swift armour thrusts in the desert, to infantry slogging matches in the mountains and to daring airborne assaults.

Features and Scenarios:
Each scenario covers a campaign or major battle.
These include the battles for Tobruk and El Alamein, the Axis last stand in Tunisia, the mountain warfare in Greece in 1940-41, the German airborne assault on Crete, the British intervention in Vichy Syria, and the Patton-Montgomery race for Messina in Sicily.
Game units are regimental-brigade level, with divisional builds.
There are also extensive air orders of battles.
Command, supply, partisans, weather and many more features of operational level warfare are included.

The OOB contains fifteen nations with 337 different unit types.
The combat model provides for such factors as armour effects and morale.
Airpower includes missions such as close support, interdiction, recon and interception.
There is an extensive campaign manual included as an electronic file which includes information on networked play, PBEM, and a troubleshooting guide (127 pages in total).
• 23 Scenarios – with optimization for PBEM as well as a separate version for play against the system AI.
• The Master Map covers the entire Mediterranean theatre of operations.
• Game scale is 1 hex = 10 kilometres, 1 turn = 2 days.
• OOB & Scenario editors, parameter data editor allow players to customize the game and create new ones.
• Sub-map editor allows the main map to be “chopped” up into smaller segments for custom scenario creation.
Multiple play options:
against the computer AI - Play by e-mail (PBEM) - LAN & Internet “live” play - Two player hotseat.

Minimum System Requirements:
1 GHz Pentium PC - 256 MB RAM - 300 MB free hard disk space - Windows 2000/XP/Vista

I understand that, but we buy PzC/MC games to help SUPPORT the development of new PzC/MC games and features, not support the ancient wars and squad battles series.I bought Winter War and I supported SqB production. We are paying for these PzC/MC games after all, so we should be seeing some more PzC/MC titles.

I don't have any knowledge of the PzC/MC side of the design team composition, but a large reason that SB has been able to release 4 games in the last couple of years has been the productivity and organization of the design team, specifically Rich Hamilton and the scenario designers. I have no idea how many folks work on the PzC side of things, but if it's only a handful, then production of that series will be slower.

These games require a tremendous amount of work to get a title on the market. Before I got involved with SB playtesting, I never imagined just how much time and energy goes into a game's life-cycle.
