Bulge Strategy

Bulge Strategy
On several past occasions we have iterated various strategies for the Axis offensive. I am currenly engaged in a very interesting match where my Axis opponent is sending Lehr down south of the Saur, maybe to try to cross the Alzette at Berg or even more south at Mersch. I am thinking that the worst that could happen is that the 10th Armored and 4th ID reinforcements may be cut off, but of course there are ways to deal with that.

Has anyone seen this before and what was the outcome? I am not asking for specific "countermeasures" or strategy, rather what happened?

Also, what has been the most unorthodix attack that you have seen, and what happened?

Marquo :-)

RE: Bulge Strategy
I have seen the strategy used, and have used the strategy myself. In both cases, the use of Panzer Lehr in the 7th Army's sector effectively helps the 7th Army destroy much of the 4th ID and the 10th Armored and allows the the 7th Army to make an effective drive on Martelange. However, in both cases, Panzer Lehr was little help with the drive on Bastogne and beyond. As I recall, in both instances, Panzer Lehr was effectively bogged down in the south for much of the first four days of the battle and was never able to break free to make a move to the Meuse. Although that's basically the real goal. Help the 7th Army, then, break through in the south, Capture Martelange, and then either support the 2nd Panzer's Drive on Bastogne, or move west towards St. Hubert, Rochefort/Wellin and eventually Givet or Dinant.
In my oppinion, a risky strategy if your intentions are to make a serious drive on the Meuse.
