Have scope, will travel...
Here is perhaps the most important tip I have learned over the last year:

Snipers kill tanks.

Now how does this work you may ask?

Tested in many actual game engagements, snipers will button enemy tanks at worst, and kill enemy tank commanders at best.

When an enemy tank has an injured or dead TC, it's reaction and spotting time become extremely poor. In one scenario played recently, a Crack French sniper with 15 bullets killed the TC of every tank in a platoon of MK IV's (plus a Panther). This has resulted in the Panther being fired upon for an entire THIRTY SECONDS by Sherman 76's with no response or reply from the Panther. That thirty seconds (at range of 500m plus) can be critical for you to get the jump on any enemy tank formations.

Doing a few abstraction tests, it appears that the further away a firing tank is when shooting at a buttoned or TC reduced enemy tank, the longer you will have within a turn where the enemy tank will not fire as it tries to acquire the firing unit.

So next time you want to win an armored battle, have two long tall Texans with scopes ride shotgun with your tanks, dump em off and commence firing at the enemy TC's before your own tanks engage (100-300m get best results, and a test has been done that allows you to gauge quality of sniper against % to kill TC at range).

Cheers!

Excellent tip.

Also, after your sniper has fired and the enemy buttons up, rerun the movie from the enemy tank's view - close to the tank. If you hear the commander cry out "Ugh!" or something like that, that means you got him. Also watch the tank's movement - if it was moving along and suddenly stops when the bullet hits, then you've probably shocked the crew so send in the jackals quick before they recover.
