Calling Curt Cabbage
Curt

I have fixed your BNA battalions in the first two scenarios from your Burma 42 group. They work with Matrix now.
I notice your objectives seem a little low valued. Do you want to play with these before releasinging them?

RE: Calling Curt Cabbage
Curt is in hospital for a couple of days.

From what I know of WF, objective values from Curt's scns are changed before release.

RE: Calling Curt Cabbage
Hope he gets well soon. Id like to return these to him so he can finalize them with some play testing.

I guess at least some these were not ready for release he did not put in leaders either. Some have some reasonable objective values.

Its a great set of scenarios though. The five scenarios covers the trials of the 17th Indian Division at the begining of the Burma Campaign to the point where they are backed up to the Sittang Bridge trying to hold it open long enough to escape while a howling blood mad horde of Japanese storms out of the dark trying to overwhelm them. I think it could be made into an LCG.

Hello George,

I have most all of Curt's RS scenarios and have playtested many of them. Curt told me he did not include leaders in many of his RS sceanrios to prevent the Japanese from using the Banzai function.

Thanx!

RE: Calling Curt Cabbage
I think I remember him mentioning something about that, now you mention it. I had some "non Banzai" Japanese leaders worked out for a Rising Sun addon. I suppose I could include them. Personally I find the Banzai attacks cost you in the long run and I avoid them.

I think he should put them in. They are only the top leaders of Divisions and Regiments they would not be an overwhelming advantage, and risking them on the front line would be a bit risky.

RE: Calling Curt Cabbage
Hello George,

I would like to see the non-banzai leaders for sure.

Banzai attacks against the Chinese, PA Forces and the KNIL is devestating as they do not have the firepower to make the Japanese pay. I have found that using Banzai attacks against these forces make many scenarios nearly unplayable.

Thanx!

Hawk

RE: Calling Curt Cabbage
From what I have read the "banzai" attacks seem to have been exceptional tactics rather than the norm, more of a desperation measure. Having normal leaders would allow the scenario maker to control its use.

Looking at the leader platoons, I think that only the Japanese foot leaders have the Banzai code,1027. Other slots leaders have code 3. The motorized ones of all slots have the code 0.

From reading the manual it seems they both types of Japanese leaders Banzai so the question is if we add "normal" code 3 foot leaders will they still banzai because they are Japanese?

I think maybe the only way to have no banzai attacks under the exising game program is to give the Japanese infantry platoons a normal code 131 instead of 1151.

RE: Calling Curt Cabbage
Asiaticus, Hawk, Huib,

Out of hospital ~3 hours ago. Am enjoying the proverbial - LEGAL Rocky Mountain High - with enough to last another week. Things are good.

Asiaticus:
(a)Extremely pleased you are looking into those Burma scens. The 5 are Kawkareik, Moulmein, Bilin, Mokpalin and Sittang...if I remember correctly. FYI...in the first two (Kawkareik and Moulmein) the "BNA" units you refer to are really supposed to be a Thai battalion (indeed, Thai...the would not cross the Salween, however, and are not included in the last 3 scens).

(b) in my proto scens, objective hexes are deployed with my own way of establishing their relevence to the scen at hand...and as Huib mentioned are damn nearly always changed (increased in value...usually by him). As always Huib, thanx.

© RE leaders: I do include them in the OOBs but rarely deployed them before, as I thought: (1) leaders are a rather contrived novelty, except for the extrememly, extrememly rare exception; (2) rating leaders, if they are included, is very subjective (and not quantifiable, really) and still a novelty; and (3) for the Japanese...see (d)

(d) The Banzai rules in CS are more of a fanciful novelty than leaders. "Banzai attacks" were nothing more than Japanese "assaults" usually at night. The irresitable reputation they acquired were, indeed, a legend of the Chinese wars...definatly not against the western forces, where the Japanese were slaughtered almost everytime. My recommendation for representing an accurate picture of a "Banzai" charge would be to; increase the morale level of the units desired (which can be done by the designer) and increasing the "assault value" of Japanese infantry (pro-rated, of course, to 1st line, 2nd line and etc.) which can only be done by a developer...but I would strongly recommend that.

FYI my preferred email address is: [email protected] my handle, of course, here, is Mr. Guberman.

Huib,

Thanx for all of your support. RS was a bastard when it came out and to some extent, still is...but there was so much more to the Pacific theater than the USMC and the USN blasting the Japanese out of rocks.

RE: 2nd Div...will not be able to get a turn out tonight...but will tommorrow...

Hawk,

Ditto as I said to Huib, regarding Kuching and Tarakan...The Japanese commander is experiencing much more than a sake buzz tonight...

As always,
Cheers

Curt
