I am an Old FA guy. I have notices that in these photo that the Spades are not chocked or dugin. What was the recoil like on these gun. The crew seems too be right up on them.

I recall this photo from an old paperback series on WWII in the 70's - I believe it is early Barbarossa and in Russia/Ukraine. You can see what might be a Russian truck down the road and I believe the kind of telephone poles and high picket fences to be Russian practise.

As for tactical practise - setting up in open with spades not dug in not so good an idea - crew very exposed to fire.
