c_Question Mark  Any suggestions for a good, reliable e-mail service?
Hey guys,

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good e-mail service for gaming?

My requirements (in somewhat order of importance):

Reliability - Files, particularly ones with attachments, should get through 99.9999% of the time. I seem to be having a lot of dropped e-mails lately with no alert messages, and I suspect it is more on my end than on my opponent's.

Attachment size - I play CS/CM/UV pretty regularly, and my attachment file sizes (even zipped) can easily top 2 MB.

SPAM filter - I had a hotmail account once, and it was a little annoying filtering through the mortgage/porn/drug/etc. spams to look for turns. I'd like a service that would have good built-in filtering service that either lets most PBEM turns through or has simple controls to put addresses on a "trusted" list.

Outlook Express compatibility - I use Outlook Express for my e-mail at home, and I would like to be able to continue that. So ideally, I'll be able to access my home e-mail and my gaming e-mail at the same time with one hit of the send/receive button. I'd consider making a change in e-mail program if that would allow one click send/receive.

Cost - Free would be nice, but I'd be willing to pay a small monthly fee, if it was a world-class e-mail service.

So any suggestions out there?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Mike,

Have you looked into Google's Gmail service? I don't presonally use it, but I have friends that swear by it.

As far as spam goes, no filter will be 100% but the amount of spam you receive is directly proportional to how much you use a particular address.

One effective technique I have used in the past is to have a separate email address that I use just for PBEM, this seems to reduce the amount of spam I get mixed in with my PBEM stuff.

Also Outlook express has a nice feature that allows you to setup message rules that will move incoming messages into separate mail folders based on different criteria.

For example .. If I'm playing 4 games at the same time, I will setup 4 mail folders (one for each game) and a message rule for each opponent that I am playing so that only their incoming mail gets sent to their folder ..... Its really quite easy to setup and maintain and takes very little time ....

Outlook Express, no question about it.
You can have your e-mail forwarded into it from your present internet service provider, etc..

Hi!:)
I use HOTMAIL and have had no problems with spam or downloading large files! Hotmail initiated some upgrades in the past few months so you now get 250MB storage, and the Spam Filter is good! You can adust it to just receive only emails that have addresses in your address book, which I have done. All others go to the junk mail filter, which you can review every other day or so, and they are automatically deleted every five days from the junk mail filter!

Maybe you should look at HOTMAIL again!
