Movies about Berlin
Just watched for the 10th time or so, Hedwig and the Angry Inch about TS punk rocker from East Berlin, and there is some GREAT original rock & roll in this film. I thought MOVIES ABOUT BERLIN might be the kind of question this forum usually goes for, so I'll mention a few more.

2. The final scene in The Victors where the American and Russian soldier confront each other.

3. Lenin's Tomb, for some really great comedy about life in the Ost block.

I lived West Berlin for a few years back in the height of the cold war and I loved the city so much. It rivaled Paris in beauty. When I first got there in 1973 there were still some bombed out areas but the beauty of the city was still visible.

RE: Movies about Berlin
Another highly recommended movie which uses WWII Berlin as a back drop is "Downfall", about the final days of Adolf Hitler. Starring Bruno Ganz as Hitler, this movie is a tour de force. It is a stark and brutally realistic film like other German WWII flicks such as Das Boot and Stalingrad.
Another great flick which revolves around the final days of the Third Reich is "The Bridge". This movie is about is about a group of young German teens who are enlisted into the Volkstrum to defend their town against the advancing Allies.
Maybe it comes from the psychology of having seen their country defeated and devastated by war, but I've found that German war movies rarely have happy endings.

RE: Movies about Berlin
DownFall is a shocking movie.. very intense movie about the most hated man in the world..
You almost begin to think he was human at one point, but reality kicks in and you're bought back to realization that he was a real psycho nut case. very captivating and interesting to watch even if you know the end results.
I was almost able to speak German fluently by the end of the movie as it is in German language with English subtitles. The one scene where he goes off into a wild ass tirade of intense screaming, damning all of Germany and the people, is worth turning up the volume to get the full effect of the actor Bruno Gantz's startling reproduction of the raving madman.

WOW.... was my intial assesment and it is in my collection now.
