(off topic) GOT GUNS?
I visited a site called Axis History Forum & they posted pics of their firearms.

I do not have a pic, but I do have a M1_Garand rifle.

I could try to post a pic if this thread picks up steam.

(I also have Gloc .40, a .30 Winchester, two .357s, and three .38s. as well as some really old shotguns.

What you got???

No guns, but tons of orders and decorations. WWII, WWI, US and German states. Funny, I was just wondering what people on the site collected.

Anyone got an MG-42?

Mark, is that a MP-44?

But who is the ugly mug holding that beautiful assault rifle?

;) Tell me how it fires if you get to fire it at all. Always thought that was a really nice one. Is it 7.62?

Yeah that's me, about 30-40 lbs heavy cheers, taken off a little since then.

Yeah it was a delight, my Father and I got to shoot it. One of those once in a lifetime deals, the guy that owns it rarely brings it to the shoots because ammo for a while at least is hard to come by.

I have a video of me shooting it, but it's on a tape and I've been to lazy these last few years to digitize it in some way. If you want to see how it shoots, there's a ton of vids on youtube of people shooting an MP/STG-44.

One thing that I can say about it's select fire feature.... it's a total gimmick. The rate of fire compared to other automatic weapons is pretty damn slow. It serves the purpose of an auto-loading rifle much like the Garand or SVT. But shoots a less powerful round and holds 33 rounds (although I've read the men never loaded more than 28 rounds a mag).

No this one was in real 7.92kurz.

That range is right out here in the Corps of Engineers control district right? Damn, Mark, I live right here in Katy.

As far as guns, just a .45 housekeeper revolver, though I've fired and owned a lot in my time. Ha, for a wedding gift my wife tried to get me a Thompson, an original too. However, of course, the price was just ridiculous. I always keep an eye out for a good SVD or AK-47. While technology has passed them by now, they were absolutely amazing weapons.

RE: (off topic) GOT GUNS?
A great thread, and some seriously interesting pics there, Mark W!

I have a Lahti KP/31 "Suomi" SMG, unfortunately a deactivated one. Been planning to start a project one day to figure out which spare parts I would need to have it working again.

I managed to find one with an early model barrel, without the integral muzzle break that were added IIRC from 1940 on wards. A genuine Winter War model, in other words.

Here's a pic of a soldier with a later model "Suomi", the muzzle break adds two inches to barrel length, and not everyone was happy with this newer version. Apparently, the barrel would not tend to rise up that much anymore when firing long bursts...

You mean American Shooting Centers? No this was on a private range out past Katy called the Impact Zone.

I do hit up ASC sometimes after work.
