Definitely 2040.

Nothing will stop cheating, but we'll certainly find ways to make it such a deterrent that it will make the effort wasted in this series :)

Big Dawg Wrote:(Q) Does the game automatically save the game when you advance the turn? I never knew the answer so always "save it" before advancing the turn.

Could someone kindly provide me an answer to my question? THANKS!!!

RE: Replaying moves and the patch
A couple of notes. just to add some fuel to fan the flames.

1. I never thought the anti cheat thing was a good idea just for these reasons.
2. Most people I know including myself seldom get time to finish a turn without saving it and coming back later. Sometimes numerous times as "she who must be obeyed", has moments of high maintenance.
3. The only real way to stop cheating is not allow for any replay of a turn at all, 1 shot one go and you can save as many times as you want but you cannot rewrite or overwrite a file once started.
4. My PC sometimes locks up (usually do to lack of memory from all that porn that is playing) and then what? Is that a restart and cheat?
5. I can always reload the whole turn and start fresh.

That having been said, we are all supposed to be ossifers and gentlemens. Cheating only serves the person doing so and if that person has no honor and needs to cheat to prove something to themselve so be it. We all know already who we don't play. I don't care if I am first on the ladder or last as I play for the enjoyment of a good fight and would hope the rest do too.

Based on all this I don't think that technically you can prevent cheating so why bother to try.

Well said, in a large scenario I must save and return to the game up to 15 times per turn, depending on the needs of my 2 year old, my dogs and "she who must be obeyed" (in that order) so I can't see any problem with saving the game mid-turn. If any one wants to cheat - let them, they will be found out eventually.

RE: Replaying moves and the patch
I understand how people feel about the saving alert. But I also think it's a step in the right direction. Any anti cheating device should be welcomed as I have spoken to people over the years who won't even play h2h because they think cheating is endemic. It's all a matter of perception I guess. If you are playing a large scenario then surely your opponent will know this and take it into account. You can tell them you will need a lot of saves and warn them in advance. Small to medium scenarios should not require too many saves and if someone continually saves a scenario of this size and seems to have incredible luck you can put the two things together and draw your own conclusions. If you know the person not to be a cheat it's no problem. When the load counter is added as well I think we will have a much better game. For those that don't want anti cheating devices all they have to do is ignore them and inform their opponent of their stance.

I think the connection to a server was a good idea as this could stop cheating altogether as a machine would act as a third party monitor.

RE: Replaying moves and the patch
There are lots of reasons to save midturn. Resuming a turn isn't replaying a turn. I've experimented with the save counter, and all it will do is say that there were more than 2 saves, not how many. It won't prevent cheating. Along with CS I play Panzer Campaigns. The complete bulge scenario involves hundreds of units per side. It literally takes hours to play a turn and the screensaver on my laptop freezes the game. It is not feasable to play without saving midturn. The same is true for CS scenarios with 10 complexity. Anyway, I play for fun (and so far lose 2 out of 3) and assume my opponent does also. If I'm first or last on the ladder I'm still going to have to get up and go to work, pay taxes, and scoop waste out of the cats litterbox! If cheating at these games could change that it might be worth considering.

Actually, if you get the more than 2 saves warning, it will tell you how many saves there were in the Command Report at the bottom.
