I have a similar thing going.
1 HDD is partitioned into C (windows and apps) and D which is all my data. I also have a huge G drive full of audio data.
The problem is that on the C drive is the Docs and settings folder which has a bunch of stuff I need for my new install. I was within hours of doing a backup of all that stuff but was ambushed (by myself..is that an auto-ambush?) and now the only back ups are very old, too old to be really useful.

So...I have done heaps of investigation and have learned this...I have reached a bad place with trying to get into the recovery console and fix the hive. There is no other way in. I found some web pages that offered dire warnings about the situation I am in...oh dear.

Still...I have plan B. Fresh install on a new HDD. Slave the old C and C drive HDD to the new C drive...BUT, I just found a page which tells me that as the old C AND the new C are both BOOTABLE drives there may be issues in getting them both to run.
Now I have a day of more information gathering to see how to get around this issue.

All this just to get my email and settings for my programs back!!!
The data is there and safe (unless I launch another auto-ambush!!) so I just need to get at it.
My flatmate is a real computer wizz, but he is on tour in the UK at the moment. He's back soon so I guess you could say the reserves are on the way...actually he's more like the main force ;)

Cheers mate

If all fails I have a little program called BAD COPY that may work for you. I had a CD with all my patch files on it and it wouldn't run, and my system wouldn't recognize it. Ran BAD COPY and was able to get all my files back.

Thanks Chris, I will keep that in mind. I am doing ok so far...we'll see how the next few days go. This is a trial run really, in an hour I hope to win a new motherboard on ebay, then I will have to go thru all this again with the new install. The good news is that I can get to all my old files...so, so far so good.

Hey Chris...
I am going to be out of action for quite a while yet.
Perhaps it is a good idea to negotiate a result for those two games. They were close to finished anyway.
I don't have your home email on this computer I am using and it seems that the Blitz mail system is non functional so I will start the bidding here..

In my german attack I claim a minor victory as I have you pinned to the edge of the map (except for a few a/c in the north that are too far away to be in the fight) and have inflicted more kills. You have been back peddling for a few turns and I have pushed you off that E-W ridge which I am now just behind. The last couple of turns were going to be good ones for my guys as they were not under pressure, were mostly untouched esp the Pz-IIIs, and were in good position to have a crack at your cruisers from that ridge. My Italian tankettes had stopped your sth flank run and were in good position to hold that flank.

That's how I see it anyway Big Grin

The second battle. I would be happy with a draw as were were not far enough into the combat for there to be an obvious result. My guys were in good position with plenty of room to manouvre against your Germans. Your italians were just about to get hammered by my Indian Stuarts who were in good position in the centre village. They had just started to brew your tanks up and had stopped your movement to the west which could have flanked that position.
If that battle had gone a couple more turns i would have claimed (with a bit of luck with my shooting) another minor victory as I would have killed off your italians and exposed the right flank of your germans.

Again, that just how it looks from my side of the map.

I would be happy for someone else to look at the games and see wat they thought...maybe Greybeard as he has offered before?
I will happily send my pw to whoever gets the files.

So...back to you Chris. Let me knnow what you think. If you want to email, I will get it and then I'll have your address and we can continue the debate in private.

Hope all is good with your guitaring...I just missed 3 different good classical guitars on ebay...outbid in the last seconds on really good deals...i need BROADBAND!!!!!!!

Cheers
Jason
