Help  Victory Conditions
Hi, all:

As you might deduce from my screen name, I'm an old ASL hand. I've just made a pretty significant spend on the Squad Battles series and I want to get started. Problem is, as an old ASL player, I am used to seeing scenarios laid out rather differently from what I see in this game.

Where is the best place to find victory conditions and SSRs? I figured out where to find the OOB information, but I'd like to know what my force is supposed to do before engaging the AI. I'd also like to be able to set up my force myself but since I can't find setup instructions, that's a bit difficult as well.

Also, what's the best way to find combat summaries? The first time I fired up the enemy AI, I saw a lot of combat taking place all over the map but couldn't find a summary of what happened when it was done. I know I'm probably missing something basic and I apologize for that.

Thanks in advance.

And to this I would simply note that I've discovered that different games in the series have different "getting started" files. The one for Winter War is much more comprehensive than the one I started with, Advance of the Reich. At least I know how to lose now!

It sounds like you havent found the user manual. This is a pdf file (User.pdf) found in the Manuals directory of the main game folder. I will give you brief answers to your questions but you should read the manual for a more comprehensive view.

Taking your points one at a time:

There are two places to find the victory conditions. In the main game module there is a menu item: Info/Victory. This will give you the points values that need to be achieved for each of the victory levels. The second place is in the scenario description (viewable when you are preparing to load a scenario from the main game module) This gives you a verbal description of what the scenario is about and indicate the objectives you need to achieve.

I dont know what SSR's are.

You cant set up your force yourself, this has already been done by the scenario designer. You could edit a scenario to change the setup but this will very likely unbalance the game and render the Victory conditions meaningless. There is another manual describing how you edit a scenario.

Combat summaries are not available.

You will find reading the manual immensley helpful in answering most of your questions.

You might also find this Blog article of interest, I think its rather good. Although I am perhaps a little bit biased.
