It was the 22nd Panzer Division and it occurred during Operation Uranus. Field mice had eaten the electrical wires in the tanks and prevented the division from taking part in the counterattack against the Soviet breakthrough of the Romanian 3rd Army. The American name for this kind of occurrence was SNAFU.
