Actually that last AW update did seem to smooth out the game quite a bit. It feels very different than from a year ago - at least to me.

I'm still pretty green to AW but...

I think one thing I noted is that AW is a paradigm shift from most wargames out there (ancient or otherwise). There really isn't that instant gratification of click and shoot. There is no real targetting going on in the squad battles or fog sense. It's kinda odd at first. Plus the code base is aged so the program has it's own peculiarities not usually found today (For me that's mainly things around which window has the focus: The unit window or the map)

In light of the above: Once I played a few games I started to get into the feel of the game and the program and started not to notice the differences as much.
